Height, volume, orientation, and center of gravity were changed. There is a new face born and an area been overlapped. When we assign each face attribute, on the top part the back faces came to the front and the front faces came to the back. The cut broke the order of architecture. It not only evokes a kind of memorability as image which potentially responds to the urban relationship, but also brings out a brand new order inside a building which reconstructs and organizes the Like the Green Archipelago this studio will develop a series of projects that are also urban fragments conceived in relation to one another. But whereas the Berlin fragments sat in a circumscribed and verdant emptiness, these are surrounded by fullness - in a city denser than New York. In plan, the fragments of both projects have a similar morphology.&nbsp; Berlin, however, plays out like a chess game on a flat urban surface while Seoul presents, both through its topology and the overlay of infrastructure, a three-dimensional condition. To quote the competition brief: “The purpose of this competition is to find creative and innovative ideas to maximize the use of unused urban spaces in the Seoul metropolitan area and to suggest a three-dimensional use of urban infrastructure in the city where the land is not available.” Here we are presented with a contemporary condition in which a return to the architecture of urban fragments finds that the ground has shifted beneath its feet. The apparent circularity of this return reveals itself instead - as history sometimes does - to be a spiral. In the course of this circuit over the last forty years, architecture has been reflected, projected, and inverted. Now - as it adjusts itself to new complexities, both literal and theoretical - it finds no stable urban plane on which to rest. This relationship of apparent orthographic simplicity to an actual three-dimensional complexity will be treated as more than a metaphor, it will be the basis of the studio’s working methods. To alleviate congestions and reverse the conversion of housing stock to office use in central cities, the strategy proposed was to build complexes of offices and municipal administrative facilities outside historic city centre. Currently, it’s only connected by a subway underpass. There’s a need to come up with an urban construction plan to actively connect these two areas ahead of the opening of Yongsan Park. The connection of these two areas need to consider the connection to Ichon Station. Seobingo-ro and bus stops need to be considered. In a broader sense, the relation to the Ichon Market needs to be considered. It goes beyond a pedestrian bridge that connects these two areas. It’s about connecting these two areas and comingup with a new urban construction form using railways and the upper part of the road. To achieve this, programs about the target area need to be thought of and this needs to create a ripple effect. To the south are apartment-based housing and roadside commercial areas. Close to the target area is the Ichon Market. Over Seobingo-ro will be the Yongsan Park. To the north and west is currently the National Museum of Korea. There’s a demand to connect in advance the southern residential area and the northern park ahead of the opening of the Yongsan Park after the transfer of the U.S. Army base. <img width="3900" Ichthyosis vulgaris is commonly caused by a genetic mutation that’s inherited from one or both parents. In the past hundred years cities have grown to dwarf the scale of historic human settlements, stretching to the limits of comprehension. Nonetheless there remains the physical fact of cities. They are composed not only of flows of capital, information, peoples, and resources, but also of the inert mass of streets, buildings, and infrastructure. These shaped things are unavoidable presences and, after they are shaped, to quote Churchill, “they shape us.” Given the dizzying breadth of pressing urban concerns, architecture is sometimes seen to be of minor importance. Thompson Center (formerly the State of Illinois Building), and is to be conceived in relation to the current controversy surrounding the proposed sale of the building. The studio’s main focus is on disciplinary questions of the relationships amongst typology, function, and form in urbanism. Though Chicago’s period of daring architectural innovation has waned, it remains rare among great cities in that its urban character has been formed as much by individual, ambitious works of architecture, as by its overall urban plan. More typically one sees the spatially vague tools of urban planning, land use, and policy shape urban form as a default outcome of non-formal processes. Counteracting this tendency requires the willful shaping of architectural form, imagined large and without trepidation. For us in Chicago, urbanism will be posited as a question of architecture, not planning. The studio explores urbanism through the examination and development of single buildings that, owing to their size, form, or urban impact become in themselves urbanism. The potential of a Big _____ Building to function as an urban agent will be explored throughout the semester. first term in the second year of the core M.Arch I sequence builds upon the awareness of the discipline and knowledge of architectural production by focusing on issues of Integrative Design. The studio is structured to hone each student’s awareness of issues involved in a complex architectural project. Elemental spatial constructs and organizational systems are seen as resulting from and reacting to site conditions, program distribution, and structural systems, building envelope systems and assemblies, environmental factors, and building regulations. We are interested in the castle not only because of its figurative relationship between objects and parts, but also its engagement with the fictional world and its power to generate multiple fictions or readings. For almost a hundred years, Disney has created plenty of animations including the “Princess Series”, which foreground the castle and its related symbolism. As a result, by proposing a castle for Disney’s Animation Studio, this typology both indicates the castle’s centrality to Disney’s history and materializes this history through architecture. Adjacent to the main building, a smaller iteration of the castle houses the auditorium and visualization program. The massing parts were chose from Gehry’s MIT for their complex, doubled, and curvilinear geometries. The tilted grids of the fake “window” pattern and its scale creates a false speculation of the interior. In addition, the “window” cladding does not function as windows, but the wall inside of the cladding is equipped with punched windows for the inhabitants of the office. Instead of using two different types of material represented by the abstracted black and white color pattern, one cladding material was used throughout, grounding the facade in the world of abstraction representation and imagination. For the structure, this project uses Type II construction type. It uses three different discreet structural systems for the floors, the facade, and the glass. Columns, concrete floor plates, and three concrete cores are used to support the interior floors, the envelope system, and the cladding. The columns in the interior follow the grid of the referenced geometries, leaving a residue of the original geometry and creating a sense of disorientation through an inside-outside continuity. The facade’s structure is supported by a steel frame in order to allow for these complex geometries. The frame hangs on the interior structure and floor plates but does not entirely depend on being supported by the floor plates and cores. On the outside of the wall hangs the cladding, supported by mullions. Students pay close attention to the development of ideas that inform an iterative and creative process for working with many different media: from physical models, to two-dimensional drawings, to digital interfaces. The core offers students a common platform—a shared language and value system—that unifies the class into one coherent whole. It builds in the student body a kind of “class consciousness” through a deep appreciation for contemporary technologies and the public conversations on architecture. 1GA is the first design course in a sequence of four foundation studios that constitute the MArch 1 core curriculum. One of the primary goals of the introductory studio is to develop technical rigor and fine craft in working with contemporary architectural tools. This foundational studio is, therefore, inevitably a training ground for techniques and an introduction to ideas that can be fully exercised in advanced studios and thesis work. But the study of the tools is never merely technical. In studio, we place an emphasis on a conceptual understanding of representational techniques in the history of architectural production at large. Students, therefore, are asked to develop an intellectual framework for their formats and compositions in the design of spatial organizations and architectural form. When students develop their first building proposals, they begin by engaging a series of abstract problems already present in the discipline, and they transform them to the requirements of use, inhabitation, and site context.
